China’s Top Ten Power Battery Companies and Relative Data

On October 12, the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance released data on the production and sales of new energy vehicle batteries and the number of vehicles installed in September 2021. In September, CATL, BYD, and Guoxuan Hi-Tech ranked firmly in the top three. AVIC Lithium Potential ranked fourth, Tafel New Energy and Xinwanda ranked fifth and sixth respectively, and Honeycomb Energy dropped to seventh.

In September, China’s power battery output totaled 23.2GWh, with a year-on-year increase of 168.9% and a month-on-month increase of 18.9%. Among them, the output of ternary battery is 9.6GWh, accounting for 41.6% of total output, an increase of 102.6% year-on-year, and an increase of 15.1% month-on-month. While the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries is 13.5GWh, accounting for 58.3% of total output, an increase of 252.0% year-on-year, and an increase of 21.9% month-on-month.

From January to September, China’s power battery output totaled 134.7GWh, a cumulative year-on-year increase of 195.0%. Among them, the cumulative output of ternary batteries was 62.8GWh, accounting for 46.6% of the total output, a year-on-year increase of 131.1%. While the cumulative output of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 71.6Wh, accounting for 53.2% of the total output, a year-on-year increase of 291.4%.

In September, China’s power battery sales totaled 17.8GWh, a year-on-year increase of 155.8%. Among them, the sales of ternary batteries were 7.6GWh, an increase of 118.0% year-on-year, accounting for 42.9% of total sales. While the sales of lithium iron phosphate batteries were 10.1GWh, an increase of 194.2% year-on-year, accounting for 56.9% of total sales.

From January to September, the cumulative sales of power batteries in China reached 106.8GWh, a cumulative year-on-year increase of 176.9%. Among them, the cumulative sales of ternary batteries were 49.3GWh, a year-on-year increase of 135.8%. And the cumulative sales of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 56.7GWh, with a year-on-year increase of 225.0%.

In September, the installed capacity of power batteries in China was 15.7GWh, with a year-on-year increase of 138.6% and a month-on-month increase of 25.0%. Among them, a total of 6.1GWh of ternary batteries were installed, an increase of 45.6% year-on-year, and a 15.0% increase from the previous month. And a total of 9.5GWh of lithium iron phosphate batteries were installed, an increase of 309.3% year-on-year and 32.3% month-on-month.

In the first nine months, China’s power battery installed capacity totaled 92.0GWh, a cumulative increase of 169.1% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative installed capacity of ternary batteries was 47.1GWh, accounting for 51.2% of the total installed vehicles, a increase of 99.5% year-on-year. While the cumulative installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 44.8GWh, accounting for 48.7% of the total installed vehicles, with a increase of 332.0% year-on-year.

In September, a total of 39 power battery companies in China’s new energy vehicle market realized the installation of vehicles, 11 less than the same period last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery companies have installed power batteries of 12.3GWh, 13.4GWh and 14.6GWh, respectively, accounting for 78.4%, 85.3% and 93.2% of the total installed vehicles.

From January to September, a total of 54 power battery companies in China’s new energy vehicle market realized the installation of vehicles, with a decrease of 10 compared with the same period last year. The top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery companies have installed power batteries respectively 67.2GWh, 77.0GWh and 84.4GWh, accounting for 73.0%, 83.6% and 91.7% of the total installed vehicles respectively.

In September 2021, China’s new energy vehicles have an average load capacity of 48.6kWh per vehicle, an increase of 6.9% from the previous month. Among them, the average charge capacity of pure electric passenger cars and pure electric passenger cars was 49.9kWh/vehicle and 228.7kWh/vehicle, respectively, up 6.8% and 14.9% year-on-year.

In September 2021, the energy density of China’s pure electric passenger car system accounted for the highest proportion of 140 (inclusive) -160Wh/kg vehicle output, reaching 32.1%. The output of 125 (inclusive)-140Wh/kg and 160Wh/kg and above models accounted for 26.9% and 27.5%, respectively. The production of vehicles below 125Wh/kg accounted for 13.5%, a slight decrease from August.
